Because my dear friend and doppelgänger Will McNicol unfortunately can´t join the Ullapool Guitar Festival this year, I will take over the FRIDAY WORKSHOP! Here's everything you need to know:
Date: Friday 4th October 2024, immediately before the Ullapool Guitar Festival kicks off in the evening.
Location: The MacPhail Centre, Mill St, Ullapool, IV26 2UN
Timings: The workshop will run from 10:30 - 17:30. Here is an idea of how the schedule might look like: 10:00: arrival, getting settled 10:30-13:00 first session (including a coffee break in the middle)
13:00-14:30 lunch at a local restaurant
14:30-17:00 second session (including a coffee break in the middle) 17:00-17:30 Open Mic - Share a tune with the group!
Description: The workshop will focus on different creative approaches to guitar playing - both in terms of developing your own ideas and pieces, as well as thinking outside the box in terms of playing technique. We will be looking at percussive elements and how to use them in a musical way and I will show you step by step, how I write music for solo acoustic guitar without getting lost in music theory. These approaches will be explained using pieces by myself as well as explored by playing simple to moderately difficult practice pieces and grooves together.
The ability to read music OR tablature is helpful in this workshop, but not essential. Guitarists with all types of acoustic guitars - from classical instruments to acoustic guitars - are welcome.
In addition to the topics mentioned above, there will be enough time for conversations about musicality, equipment and performance amongst other things. Let´s try to answer all the question you have!
Printed workshop material will be provided for you on the day, and there’s no need to do any preparation beforehand. However, I might send you an email with some of the materials around two weeks before the workshop, just in case you want to have a look at whats going to happen!
If you have at least 3 years playing experience, know a few fingerstyle pieces, and want to expand your musical and technical vocabulary, then this is the workshop for you!
Performances: To round off the day there will an ‘open mic’ - opportunity for any participants to share a tune or two with the group.
Fee: £95 which includes printed workshop material.
Availability: Limited to 12 participants.
Lunch: A table will be booked at a local Ullapool restaurant (details to be confirmed nearer the time). Participants are kindly asked to cover the cost of their own meal.
Registration/Payment: To register for the workshop, simple contact me via my website or send me an email to info@soenkemeinen.com. You can pay the workshop either on cash on the day or I will send you an invoice you can pay either via PayPal or bank transfer - your choice!
Cancellation: If you registered, but can´t take part, please let me know. I can then give your place to someone else who is happy to take part in the workshop!
